Our Teachers

Swindon Music Co-operative is made up of approximately 50 self-employed music teachers who are competent performers and teachers, committed to providing the highest standards of teaching.  All teachers are subject to enhanced checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service before commencing teaching, and their teaching is monitored to ensure that the quality of tuition delivered is to the highest possible standard. Annual CPD training is also provided.

Many of our teachers also perform professionally in and around Swindon.

Becoming a Teacher

Membership of the Co-operative is open to all musicians and teachers, subject to formal interviews.

Ideally, candidates should be of graduate status and have Grade 8 in their main instrument. However, applicants with no formal qualifications and who have extensive performing experience are also encouraged to apply. Training and on-going support is provided.

At interview, candidates are required to:

  • Perform a short programme of contrasting pieces;
  • Provide evidence of successful teaching experience (if applicable) and a commitment to professional development;
  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of music education, teaching and learning.

Membership is subject to two professional references and full clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All teacher-members are required to have Public Liability Insurance provided by either the Musicians’ Union or the the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
